UPDATE: The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating to see what caused a fire at the Nitro Supermarket.

Nitro Fire Chief Casey Mathes says the fire started on the second floor and the whole store is heavily smoke damaged. He says additionally, the store lost power in the fire so all of the perishable items will be thrown away. Mathes says this store is a staple in the community, ‘This is a hub, this is a staple piece of the nitro area. A lot of people come here for their groceries. Its a staple for the community.”

NITRO, WV (WOWK) — Crews are on the scene of a working fire at the Nitro Supermarket, according to Metro 911 dispatchers.

Officials say this came in just after 10:40 p.m.

They say crews are on the scene.

There is no word on any injuries.
