A boil water advisory is in effect Sunday evening following a water main break in Cabell County.
It happened near the intersection of McComas Road and Sharps Branch Road Saturday evening. West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for parts of the Barboursville, Salt Rock and West Hamlin areas.
Officials with American Water told 13 News that it is a significant break that requires “extensive repairs,” as the break was located under a 12 foot culvert.
“Our crews tried to fix it yesterday but it proved to be too difficult to access safely,” said American Water’s External Affairs Manager, Laura Martin. “We are actually working to drill another line to be able to pull a new line through to be able to make the repairs that way today.”
Martin says crews have been working diligently overnight — and will continue to work until the repair is fixed. The weather has made things more difficult, but according to Martin, crews are still hoping to have the repairs made by early Monday morning.
If you are a customer impacted, clean water is available at the Salt Rock Fire Department. However, you must bring your own containers to fill.
As of right now all schools in Cabell County will have classes Monday morning. Except for Salt Rock Elementary School, which will be closed for both students and staff because of the water main break.
This is a developing story be sure to check back for updates.
