RUSSEL, KY (WOWK) – More than 100 jobs are disappearing in Greenup County, Kentucky.
A spokesperson with CSX sent a statement to WOWK 13 News announcing the Russell Locomotive Shop will be closing.
The spokesperson wrote that the Russell Terminal will stay open “and all other transportation operations will continue.”
The closure will affect 113 positions.
The spokesperson added, “Furloughed union employees will be covered by the terms of their collective bargaining agreements and will receive at least 60 days regular pay and benefits.” The spokesperson also said the company has a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice with the shop closure.
The statement regarding the closure of the shop also says the decision to close Russell’s Locomotive Shop was based on the decline of the volume of work in at least the last three years, but not due to the fault of any employees.
“CSX is grateful for the contributions of its many employees and has offered to work with labor officials to minimize the effects of this closure on employees and their families,” the spokesperson said.
