UPDATE (4:26 p.m. on Friday, May 13): The Kanawha Sheriff’s Office says the man with the gun had it holstered on his hip.

They say they believe he lives at the house that caught fire, and witnesses interviewed by deputies at the scene said the man’s behavior made them nervous.

The witnesses also told deputies that the man was asking them to use their phones. They said that one neighbor let him use the phone, and he was heard making a call to his father to tell him that the house was on fire.

KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK)—Crews are on the scene of a house fire on Ivory Lane in the Pinch area of Kanawha County.

The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office says someone called and reported seeing a man with a gun in the area. Deputies have not yet located him, and he has not yet been linked to the fire.

Kanawha dispatch says power lines are down near the fire. There is no information yet as to whether anyone was in the house at the time of the fire.
