The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says a woman has been arrested for the fatal shooting in a McDonald’s parking lot.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, Belinda Adkins was arrested at around 2:44 PM on an outstanding murder warrant. Adkins is a suspect in the shooting death of Joshua Jones that occurred on January 23rd, 2019.

The Sheriff’s Office received a telephone call from an acquaintance of Adkins who advised that she had arrived at his home and ask him to contact us that she was wanting to turn herself in.

Detectives who were working this case were only a few blocks away at the time of the call and arrived to find Adkins standing at the end of the driveway.

The home is located in Burlington, Ohio.

She was arrested without incident.

Adkins was transported to the Lawrence County Jail on a charge of Murder, a Felony of the 1st degree.

“I am very proud of the men and women of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office,” states Sheriff Lawless. “My staff has worked nonstop on this case, in an effort to keep Lawrence County safe.”

UPDATE (1/23/19 9 PM):

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless, Joshua C. Jones, 39, of South Point, was shot multiple times outside McDonald’s Wednesday and died from his injuries.

When deputies first arrived on scene, Lawless said they found Lawrence County EMS providing care to Jones, who was on the ground near a vehicle toward the front of the parking lot.

According to deputies, witnesses told them they heard gun shots and saw a white female flee the parking lot in a grey or white, older-model Chevy Impala. A BOLO was reportedly sent out immediately for the vehicle for Ohio and surrounding states.

Jones, who suffered multiple gunshots, was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, said Lawless. Lawrence County Coroner Dr. Ben Mack reportedly went to the hospital and has requested an autopsy. The sheriff said Hall’s Funeral Home will transport the body to Montgomery County where the autopsy will be performed.

“We are actively seeking a person of interest in this case,” said Sheriff Jeff Lawless. “Our investigation leads us to believe that this is a situation of domestic violence, possibly concerning child custody.”

The investigation is actively ongoing.
