Propane tank leak suspected as cause for explosion near South Point church

SOUTH POINT, Ohio (WOWK) — Perry Township Fire Department officials say they suspect a propane gas leak is to blame for an explosion that destroyed a South Point, Ohio church’s fellowship center.

According to dispatchers in Lawrence County Ohio a large explosion was reported around 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 14, 2019 near Lick Creek Baptist Church. That explosion caused houses around the area to shake.

The Perry Township Fire Department responded to the explosion within 5 minutes of being dispatched. Upon arrival, first responders found the out building behind the church had exploded.

The Lick Creek Baptist church suffered minimal damage, according to officials. There were no injuries reported due to the blast.
