LANCASTER, OH (WCMH) — Fallen Army Sgt. Joseph Collette was laid to rest Friday after a service and procession through his hometown of Lancaster.
Collette, 29, was killed during a mission in Afghanistan in March. His body arrived at Rickenbacker International Airport Wednesday morning and the procession made their way to Lancaster.
Collette graduated from Lancaster High School in 2007.
He served as an EOD technician in the Army and was in 242nd Ordnance Battalion, 62nd Ordnance Company, 71st Ordnance Group stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO.
He was posthumously promoted from a specialist to a sergeant, according to a spokesperon with the Army.
Collette’s funeral took place Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Memorial Church on West Fair Avenue before he was laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery.
