Family, Firefighters Seek To Help Former Captain Through ‘Go Fund Me’ Page

Local News

The family and friends of retired Huntington Fire Department Captain Nick Mooney are asking for the community’s help.

A ‘Go Fund Me’ page to help with the costs of Captain Mooney’s therapy was started on Saturday.
Mooney suffered a stroke about two months ago.

According to Mooney’s family, Mooney has improved since the stroke, but Medicare won’t be covering more of the therapy he needs to keep getting better.

Family members say it’s estimated Mooney will need $1,000 dollars per day to continue therapy so he can recover.

This guy is in need of help. If you can’t give [or] if you can’t help, just sharing the message and getting it out there to other people [will help] reach somebody that can help, said Huntington Fire Department Engineer Joshua Blake. We can get him the help he needs to get back on his feet and get home. He’s got grandchildren, children; he’s got a family that loves him and wants him at home, and that’s where he belongs. Until he gets through his recovery, he can’t [return home].
