Federal Workers Prepare to Miss Second Paycheck

Local News

Federal workers across the country are working without pay due to the Government Shutdown. Two bills failed on Thursday in the Senate, so with no end in sight workers are preparing to miss their second paycheck of the month.

“I want to talk to my pilots, keep them safe and I want to get a paycheck,” said Douglas Horwat, NATCA Local CRW Union President.

Air traffic controllers are just some of the workers going without pay while Democrats and Republicans work out their differences. On Wednesday the National Air Traffic Controllers Association released a statement saying in part:
“In our risk averse industry, we cannot even calculate the level of risk currently at play, nor predict the point at which the entire system will break.”

The stress of the job is high for many air traffic controllers but recently those wokers have had the additional stress of not knowing how they’ll pay their bills.
“The last thing you want to do is hear a story from someone you represent that says I don’t know if I’m going to be able to feed my kids,” said Horwat.
