A hidden gem, brought to life this weekend, thanks to the first ever Ridenour Regatta.
The event was planned by the Nitro Fair and Festivals Commission in hopes of encouraging locals to take advantage of Ridenour Lake. The 27-acre lake is the largest in Kanawha County.
“There is a beautiful lake right here in the heart of nitro,” said organizer Jim Caudill. “We want the community to know that it is here for their use — for fishing, hiking, biking — all kinds of things.”
The event began Friday with a catfish tournament. Saturday’s events included paddleboard lessons and live music.
“There really is something for everyone of all ages to enjoy,” said event organizer Kim Dunaway.
