SOUTH CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – Five cars were involved in a crash that shut down the I-64 West-bound exit at Montrose during the morning commute Friday in South Charleston.
The crash happened just after 7 a.m. According to South Charleston firefighters at the scene, three people were taken to local hospitals with severe injuries.
South Charleston police tell us that witnesses said that one car was swerving and hitting the guardrail going between what witnesses say 80 and 100 mph which is what started the accident. The cause of the swerving is still unknown.
At 8 a.m. emergency officials announced the westbound exit ramp will be closed for at least an hour, but it is back open now.
