KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Often times tragedy can bring out the best in us.
It can form special bonds, like those between members of the Bridge /Clendenin Elementary Archery team.
Last month, the team won its first state championship, despite the fact that many of their families lost just about everything in the 2016 floods. Clendenin lost its school and students had to consolidate with Bridge Elementary, but that tragedy brought out champions, and now they’re on their way to nationals.
“I’ve been shooting a bow since I was really young and I like it a lot,” says Mykell Taylor, one of the athletes.
The team of 24 members will head to the nationals in Louisville, and they could end up at the world championships in Nashville.
