Kanawha County Commission President recovering after kidney transplant

KANAWHA COUNTY, W. Va. (WOWK) —

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper is recovering from a kidney transplant surgery.

According to a release from the County Commission, the Commission President underwent kidney transplant surgery on Saturday, April 13th. 

After battling a significant illness involving his kidneys, Commissioner Carper was able to receive a donor kidney from a close family member and the life-saving surgery was performed in Charleston.

“Commissioner Carper is a dear friend and I have been on the Commission with him for the past 23 years, my wife and I wish him a speedy recovery and will keep him and his family in our thoughts and prayers throughout this process,” stated Commissioner Henry C. Shores.

Commissioner Ben Salango stated, “My wife and I are pleased the surgery was a success for our friend,Commissioner Carper.  He and his family remain in our thoughts.
