Beth Slack loves life. She is a mom of two beautiful toddlers and she recently got engaged. But life hasn’t always been a breath of fresh air.
The young mom is awaiting a double lung transplant. When she was just a baby, Beth was diagnosed ith Situs Inversus, which means her major organs are reversed. She also suffers from Kartagener’s syndrome.
“The double lung transplant, we’ve known that I would need it at some point for my whole life,” said Slack. “But now its time,” she added with a smile.
Back in September, she finally got the doctor’s approval for a double lung transplant. Now, she waits for the call that could come at any given moment. Its a extensive and expensive process, so her friends stepped up to help out with the medical expenses.
They have been holding different fundraisers the last few months, but Sunday afternoon’s was a way for her friends to show “permanent” support.
Friends, family, and strangers gathered at Gilded Age Tattoo Salon for a fundraiser in Beth’s honor. Tattoo artist Kayleigh Phillips donated her time and talent to work for free, each tattoo cost 40 dollars and the funds went directly to Beth and her family to help with her medical expenses.
For Beth, the support is a breath of fresh air.
“Everybody whose come together from past coworkers to friends, to family… it is so amazing what a community can do,” said Slack. “I can’t describe the love that I feel.”
