Local Woman Finds Unique Way to Calm Her Dog During Fireworks Season

Local News

It’s Fourth of July which means lots of “oooing and awwwing” and booming and banging. Most people enjoy a good firework show, but for our furry friends, that might not be the case.

For Bodhi, an eleven-year-old Australian Shepherd White Retriever Mix, he despises fireworks, or any loud abrupt noises like thunder and motorcycles.

His owner, Jeanne Cochran adopted him seven years ago and it was a match made in heaven.

“He came out the door and there was no turning back. Just one look at him and he was such a sweet dog. I knew he was going to be mine,” said Cochran

Cochran explained that he is a very calm and good-natured dog, but when it comes to fireworks or anything loud and abrupt, he frantically shakes and barks when exposed to such noises.

For the last seven years, Cochran trying to find the perfect remedy to soothe Bodhi during this national annual holiday, but this year, she made a breakthrough.. Her secret, the combination of a soft wrap, stress relief essential oils, and Hindu mantra.

“I thought of other things to put together like the chants were calming to me so I thought they would help to calm him as well. And I turned the music up loud and confined him to just one room so that he stays in the same environment, and he was peaceful the whole time, it was incredible,” said Cochran.

She is grateful she finally found a cure to make him feel at ease and said no dog should have to experience anxiety like that.

Other common remedies to settle your pooch down is Benadryl or purchasing a “Thunder Shirt” which comes in many sizes, however, did not work for Bodhi.
