UPDATE 11:18 a.m. July 17, 2020: The Charleston Police Department responded at 9:20 p.m. Thursday, July 16, 2020, to a shooting call at the intersection of Hunt Avenue and 6th Street.
Upon arrival, officers learned the victim, Blake Thompson, 26, of Dunbar, had left the scene in a personal vehicle.
A short time later, Thompson arrived at a local hospital with gunshot wounds to the chest and arm. At the time of the shooting, police say Thompson participated in an alleged drug deal with two Black male suspects.
At one point, an argument ensued and the suspects fired two shots at Thompson. Police say Thompson then fled the scene toward Copley Wrecker Service where he got into a personal vehicle. The two suspects left the scene on foot, heading north on Hunt Avenue and crossing the railroad tracks.
Thompson is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.
Detectives learned one of the suspects was a passenger in a silver Mercedes Benz headed west on 7th Avenue towards Dunbar. Dunbar Police Department located the vehicle. Officers performed a traffic stop at Fairlawn Avenue and 12th Street.
As a result of the traffic stop, Shaiheed Moore, 23, of Charleston, was charged with obstructing an officer. He is currently in South Central Regional Jail.
An investigation is ongoing. Additional suspects and charges could be pending.
ORIGINAL 10:30 p.m. July 16, 2020: KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – A man has been critically shot in Charleston Thursday night.
The shooting was reported around 9:20 p.m. on the 1000 block of Central Avenue in Charleston near Copley’s Wrecker.
There is no word on a suspect at this time.
The victim was shot in the chest and taken to the hospital.
Charleston Police is investigating.
