Marshall Accepting Applications for High School STEM Program

Local News

The fight for a spot at a chance to get hands-on experience in the Marshall Academy for Rising Scientists program has begun.

Marshall University is now accepting applicants and the Director for Continued Education Dr. Beth Wolfe says it’s an experience of a lifetime.  “this is really kind of a broader science experience for students last summer the focus was almost 100% on health sciences and pre-medical type things,” Wolfe.

After the great success of last years program, this year Wolfe says is going to be bigger and better.

“this year we are going to have that aspect of it we are still going to have a medical aspect to it but we are also going to expand into mathematics, and engineering. we wanted to expand so we’ve more than doubled the numbers of students that we are going to accept for the program this year we are going to accept 36 and we’ve doubled the length of the program so it’s going to be a four day program  instead of 2 day,” Wolfe added.

Students will also have the option to live on campus for all four days while experiencing real world activities.

“technology is an ever growing part of our lives and it’s very important and of course the health care aspect as our population ages  that’s an important thing as well so we definitely want to have a healthy pipeline of people going into those fields and i think that  summer program like this really helps students help solidify their ideas about what that means as a career and whether that really is a good fit for them,” Wolfe.

Students must submit a copy of their high school transcript and have a least a 3.0 GPA.
