Medical Marijuana Mention Leaves Advocates Wanting More at State of the State

Local News

The Governor had a lot to say during the State of the State, including expressing support for finding a medical marijuana fix.

“We need to solve the riddle guys,” said Governor Jim Justice.

The mention was a positive sign for advocates of the bill but it left many wanting more.

“I was a little disappointed, disappointed in the lack of specifics but I was still pretty happy to see he thinks enough of the issue to bring it up during the State of the State,” said Rusty Williams, WV Medical Cannabis Advisory Board Member.

Even though the matter didn’t receive a lot of attention on Wednesday night, lawmakers are assuring backers they are working to fix the banking issue before the July deadline.

“We know we got holes in the bill that need to be filled and loops that need to be closed. Our committees are working on that even as we speak,” said House Speaker Roger Hanshaw, (R) Clay.

“There were no specifics there but the good news is we got people here in the legislature who have been working on it and we do have some possible solutions,” said Del. Mike Pushkin, (D) Kanawha.
