Multiple vehicle accident shuts down I-64 eastbound at Institute on-ramp

CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – According to our crew at the scene, two people were taken to the hospital as a result of the crash.

A semi attempted to merge onto I-64 and cut off an SUV.

The SUV driver made an aggressive move back toward the truck, lost control and was hit by multiple semis.

All eastbound lanes are closed but are expected to have at least a couple of lanes opened shortly.


CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – A traffic accident involving several cars and a big-rig is forcing the temporary closure of eastbound I-64 at the Institute on-ramp.

The accident happened about 7:30pm and emergency responders are on the scene.

13 News is told there are several injuries, but the extent of them is unknown at this time.

The West Virginia State Police was closing some on-ramps in the Cross Lanes area to get traffic off the roadway so debris could be removed.

At this time there’s no indication how long the traffic delays will last.
