New organ donor registration underway at Cabell Huntington Hospital

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WOWK) — Donate Life West Virginia is hosting a donor sign-up event at Cabell Huntington Hospital from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Friday.

Event organizers say they are readily available to help you sign up to become an organ donor so you can potentially save lives.

According to the Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates, over 113 thousand people are waiting for a life-saving organ.

They say 20 people will die today because they were unable to find a donor in time.

Event organizers spoke about the importance of having a conversation with family about your wishes as being an organ donor could help save up to 8 lives.

“Whether organ donation is for you or it’s not for you, just do your research,” said Zack Pettit, Clinial Support Coordinator of KODA. “Let your family know your wishes so if the time comes that your family has the decision to make you an organ donor or not, they have your wishes.”

Popcorn and cotton candy are being sold to help support donor families at the hospital.

To register to be an organ donor, you can go to your local DMV or by signing up online on the RegisterMe website.
