Some Wood County residents are fed up over a constant hum that’s drifting East across the Ohio River.
Residents compare the hum to the sound of an angry Shop Vac, that they say is coming from two plants – Eramet Marietta Inc. and Skye Metals Recovery, Inc., along Route 7 in Marietta, Ohio.
Wood County Sheriff Steven Stephens said it’s been going on for a couple months.
Residents recently addressed their concerns to the Wood County Commission, asking them to find a solution.
Vienna Resident, Jim Weigle said, “it’s like, I think the Japanese in the war captured people and got them to talk by playing the same kind of humming noise that absolutely drives you crazy.”
He also explained that the humming runs at all hours of the day and affects his sleeping.
Vienna city officials have notified other officials in Washington County, OH, as well as Eramet management.
Mayor of Vienna, Randy Rapp said, “production facilities come with noise, it’s one of those situations that provide good paying jobs, but they’re noisy.”
Rapp also explained to 13 News that Washington County has been very cooperative and that Eramet is working to find a solution to keep it quiet.
This is a developing story. As more details arrive, 13 News will keep you up to date.
