Parents concerned that buses wont run Blue Creek Road this school year

Local News

Blue Creek Road has some serious issues.  A massive mud slide occurred along the road back in May.

Neighbors have had to deal with the repercussions of the slide since it happened.  “You either have a choice of driving on top of the concrete barrier or taking a chance on sliding over the hill,” said Ellen Hicks, who lives several miles from the slide.

Right now, she said the pressing issue is school buses.  Parents said the buses stopped running last school year after the slide, making things pretty tough for moms like Hicks, who don’t have a car.

She said, “They’ve had all summer to come up with a solution.  Here we are, a couple weeks before school starts, and nothing.”

A spokesperson from the Elkview bus garage said they had experts out on Thursday surveying the road to determine if buses will run.  The final determination will be made based on those findings.

Student’s safety, they said, is their first priority.

Our calls to the Department of Transportation regarding if and when roadwork will begin to repair the hillside and road below were not immediately returned, but in the meantime, parents are hopeful that something will be done.

We’ll update this story as more information becomes available.
