Deputies say Richard Lipscomb, 78, of Elkview, called 911 and described a fight with his grandson. During the call, deputies say Richard shot his 19-year-old grandson, Griffin Lipscomb, killing him.

Both lived at the house where the shooting occurred. Others were present, as well. Richard described himself to deputies as acting in self-defense.

Richard and others were interviewed this morning. Evidence has been collected and will need further examination. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of the State of West Virginia is assisting with the investigation and will conduct an autopsy.
