Senator Joe Manchin responds to Governor Justice’s criticism

Local News

CHARLESTON, W.VA. (WOWK) – Governor Jim Justice has been under fire after a ”Forbes” article reported he owes millions of dollars in backed taxes, calling him “The Deadbeat Billionaire”. That same week it was revealed a federal investigation is looking into Justice’s companies such as the Greenbrier and charities.

“We opened our doors and said we don’t have anything to hide. You come on and look at everything and everything. And now what they’ve done is they’ve gone and just stabbed us in the back. Stabbed West Virginia in the back, stabbed me in the back,” said Gov. Jim Justice, (R-West Virginia).

On Friday the Governor spoke at the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, he spent his time defending his finances and criticizing Senator Joe Manchin.

“It’s not who I am, it’s not how we’ve governed, it’s never how I’ve been in public life and I’m not that way in personal life. I just feel sorry for the Governor,” said Senator Joe Manchin.

When asked about the federal investigation the Governor is facing, Manchin said West Virginia deserves more.

“It’s just a shame, it’s a shame that we’re in this position. West Virginia is better than this, we are a better state than what we’re being shown,” said Manchin.

The Senator said he still has not made a decision on whether he will run for Governor in 2020.
