CLARKSBURG, WV (WBOY) – A recent study has named West Virginia the second-worst state to find love after the age of 50.

TheSeniorList, an online resource for senior citizens, recently released a study titled ‘The Best States for Finding Love After 50,’ using the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau on marital status and income. The study compared each of the 50 U.S. states and Washington D.C. The rankings were based on the following three factors:

  1. How many singles 50 and older exist in each state, including those divorced, widowed or never married.
  2. How many of those singles have a median income of at least $50,00, giving them the financial needs to date.
  3. Which way is the senior single scene trending – up or down?

West Virginia ranked 50th in the study, earning the title of the “second-worst state to find love after 50.” The only state to rank lower than West Virginia was Mississippi.

The study determined that West Virginia has 13.1% of citizens over 50 are single. Of those 13.1%, 43% have an income over $50,00, according to the study. The study aslo determined that the percentage of single seniors in West Virginia since 2012 has increased by 3%. The study determined that senior singles have a 45.9% chance to find love after 50 based on those three factors.
