Benjamin Taylor Faces Jury for First Time Since Murder of 10-Month-Old Baby

JACKSON COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – The trial of Benjamin Taylor is underway today in Jackson County.

Taylor, 33, of Cottageville, WV, is accused of the rape and murder of 10-month-old Emmaleigh Barringer back in October of 2016.

Jury selection happened Tuesday. Those people will eventually decide the outcome of 33-year-old Benjamin Taylor’s case.

Both the prosecution and the defense made their opening statements, and the prosecution called Emmaleigh’s mother Amanda Adkins to the stand for testimony.

Adkins described Emmaleigh’s condition as she called 911.  “She couldn’t hold herself up.  She started making gurgling sounds. She was freezing.”

Investigators say Taylor was romantically involved and living with Berringer’s mother when he murdered baby Emmaleigh.

Her mother said she found Emmaleigh covered in blood and unresponsive in her basement.  Taylor, she said, was crouched over her.

We have a crew in the courtroom now and will bring you more updates as the trial continues.
