As Charleston prepares for the big arrival of President Trump tomorrow afternoon, pop-up shops have been popping up all over the Capitol City selling Make “American Great Again” gear.
On the corner of Clendenin and Quarrier Street, one shop has been operating in a parking lot for the last few days. Tony Ensminger from Cleveland, Ohio owns the stand and has turned this into a hobby for the last two years, traveling state to state selling MAGA gear.
“[President Trump’s] website gives us a notice of where he’s going to be and I pack it up and come on down,” said Ensminger.
At Tony’s stand, he’s selling “Trump and Pence 2020” T-shirts, “MAGA” flags and hats, buttons with quotes, and more, but he said he doesn’t do it for the money, but more rather the adventures it takes him on.
“What I mostly meet is families, little kids, their grandfathers, and everybody in between, and they’re all friendly, peaceful, and nice. A lot of veterans, a lot of people with small businesses and a lot of blue collared workers, and everybody stops by, drives by and honks and shows their support for the President,” said Ensminger.
There are other pop-up shops around the Charleston area, including one on the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Washington Street. Tony’s shop opens at sunrise and closes at sunset.
