Two found dead after shooting at Nicholas County home

NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) – West Virginia State Police say they found two people dead at a Nicholas County home after a shooting.

Troopers say at around 5:10 PM on April 27th, 2019 they answered a Nicholas County 911 call of gunshots at the residence of Douglas Hypes at on twin oaks drive. Upon arrival at the house, troopers discovered the bodies of Hypes and Ilene Blankenship with gunshot wounds.

Troopers say Roger Blankenship, Sr. fatally shot both of the victims and ran away. Subsequent investigation revealed a pending marital divorce concerning the Blankenships.

Roger Blankenship was found at his home on Route 39 near Swiss, West Virginia with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his face and in possession of a loaded firearm. Roger Blankenship was taken from his home to a hospital for medical treatment.

This investigation is ongoing.
