Update: Police Officer Shot, Suspect Dead Following Pursuit in Putnam County

Our crew at the scene says that the Hurricane Police Officer shot following a pursuit has been released from the hospital.

The officer’s identity is Sergeant P.S. Armentrout. He has been a member at the Hurricane Police Department for fifteen years.

Troopers say that Armentrout was shot in the leg. 

The incident began after a police pursuit involving a suspect and Hurricane Police as a result of speeding.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department later joined the pursuit, and the suspect wrecked their vehicle.

According to deputies, when the suspect’s vehicle was wrecked, the suspect began firing at deputies.

Sergeant Armentrout was shot in the leg as a result. The suspect was killed as a result of the gunfire.

Deputies at the scene tell 13 News that the suspect in an officer-involved shooting has been killed.

According to our crew at the scene, the incident began after a police pursuit involving a suspect and Hurricane Police. The details on what began the pursuit are unknown at this time.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Department later joined the pursuit, and the suspect wrecked their vehicle.

According to deputies, when the suspect’s vehicle was wrecked, the suspect began firing at deputies.

In the process, one police officer with the Hurricane Police Department suffered a minor injury that is not life-threatening, according to deputies.

The suspect was killed.

A police officer has been shot in Putnam County.

The shooting took place around 11:30 p.m. in Hurricane near the intersection of U.S. 60 and U.S. 34. 

Dispatchers say the officer was taken to the hospital. The officer’s injuries are unknown at this time.

A suspect is under arrest.

No other details are available currently.

Several law enforcement officers are on scene including, but not limited to the Hurricane Police Department and the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
