Update: Victim in Charleston Shooting in Stable Condition, Suspect on the Run

UPDATE: 4/21/19 @ 8:30 p.m.

New details are emerging in a shooting on Charleston’s East End.

According to Charleston Police, the shooting occurred on Elizabeth Street outsid of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church at around 6 p.m.

The victim, identified as a 36-year-old woman, was shot in the leg by an unknown black man.

According to police, prior to the dinner, the victim and her adult daughter and the suspect had eaten dinner at the church, however the victim and daughter are not acquainted with the suspect.

Police say the suspect and the victim’s daughter had an exchange of words outside of the church which led to the suspect producing a handgun and firing upon the victim and her daughter. 

The daughter was not injured and the suspect then fled the scene on foot. 

The victim was transported via ambulance to CAMC General Hospital where she is in stable condition. ‘

The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20s, with a beard, wearing a red sweatshirt and a black jacket. 

Anyone with information about the shooting or the identity and whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call the Charleston Police Department at 304-348-8111.

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK) – A woman was shot in the leg on Sunday evening near Trinity Lutheran Church on Charleston’s East End. Her condition was not known at the time. According to Kanawha County dispatchers, it happened a little after 6pm. The Charleston Police Department is searching for the maile suspect. Their investigation continues.
