UPDATE: (7 p.m. Jan. 24, 2023) – A driver was uninjured after her car crashed into the Fat Patty’s in Barboursville, then caught fire.

According to crews on scene, the woman said she started to smell smoke while driving along Route 60 and pulled into the Fat Patty’s parking lot, but realized she had no brakes. That’s when her vehicle then hit the restaurant. Shortly after, the car caught fire and started to roll backwards toward Route 60 where it hit a concrete pillar.

Crews say gas started leaking and continued to spread flames and smoke across the parking lot, which caused some delays in traffic.

Officials and restaurant staff say this could have been worse had it not been for some customers lending a helping hand. The owner says the damages to the Fat Patty’s restaurant can be repaired, and he is just relieved no one was hurt.
