UPDATE (July 13, 2022, at 2:10 p.m.): A witness to the vehicle fire on U.S. Route 52 in Lawrence County has described the scene to 13 News.

According to Chris Conley, who also shot the above video, the driver and child passengers in the burning car did not realize what was happening. He then yelled “You’re on fire. Get out!” but the unknowing driver just looked at him while smiling.

“After the smoke picked up, she understood what I was saying and got the kids out,” Conley said. “They quickly ran away from the rear of the car.”

Conley and another driver on the road sprang into action and looked for a fire extinguisher, but neither of them had one. That is when he called 911 and took the video while making sure everyone was at a safe distance from the fire.

Conley left after making sure the scene was not at risk of an explosion.
