Water rescue called off, no kids suspected to be in river

Dispatchers say that fire crews have called off the search for possible kids in the Guyandotte River.

They say that no evidence has been found to suggest kids are in the water, and that a verbal fight nearby may have been the source of the yelling.


ORIGINAL: 5/6/19 @ 10:00 p.m.

Multiple fire departments are searching for possible children in the Guyandotte River after a woman called emergency crews, saying she heard kids yelling for help in the river.

The incident was reported around 8:45 p.m. in the Branchland area of Lincoln County.

Dispatchers say no children have been confirmed to be in the water, but fire crews are out searching the river.

Fire crews from the Guyan, West Hamlin, Hamlin, and Duval Fire Departments are responding to the scene.
