PRINCETON, WV (WOWK) —
A new movie, “Mine 9,” tells the story of the harsh realities of coal mining in Appalachia and it features a man who grew up right here in the Mountain State.
Kevin Sizemore was born and raised in Princeton, WV. Now, he is making a name for himself in Hollywood, but his latest project brings him home.
The movie is a claustrophobic thriller that tells the harrowing story of nine miners trapped inside of a coal mine.
Sizemore said he hopes everyone walks away from this movie with a new appreciation for coal miners.
“The movie is really about the coalminers,” Sizemore told 13 News. “It is not about the actors. It is all about the coalminers, they are the real stars of this whole film. They are the ones that risk their lives to put food on the table for their families.”
“Mine 9” hit theaters Friday, April 12, with a special premiere at the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton.
