COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Police say an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed in Ohio veered to avoid another vehicle and crashed, partially ejecting a 7-year-old girl who later died and injuring four other children.
Columbus police say they received a call about the crash shortly before 6 p.m. Saturday. They say 7-year-old girl Lillie Reed was pronounced dead at a hospital later that night. Police say the other children in the SUV were treated for injuries that were not life threatening.
Authorities say the driver of the SUV was taken to a hospital for observation.
A police statement said “speed and alcohol appear to have been factors” in the crash that was captured by an area crime camera.
