NEW FRANKLIN, Ohio (AP) – An Ohio man has pleaded not guilty to charges in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found ablaze on the side of the road.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports 46-year-old Daniel Jones entered his plea Friday to murder, felony assault and abuse of a corpse along with other charges in the death of Kerri Blondheim.

Authorities say the 43-year-old’s body was found in September along the border of Barberton and New Franklin after a passer-by reported a roadside fire.

Responding firefighters initially thought it was merely a mattress fire until they found Blondheim’s body while extinguishing the flames.

The medical examiner’s office says the woman had been beaten and suffered trauma to the head and neck.

Jones is being held on $100,000 bond.
