COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – An Ohio senator has introduced a bill that would prohibit smoking in a vehicle if children under the age of six are present.

State senator Tina Maharath, who represents Franklin County, introduced the bill.

The legislation would cover any lighted cigar, cigarette, pipe or lighted smoking device for burning tobacco or any other plant.

If approved, the fine would be $500 and repeat offenders would be fined $500 plus an additional $250 for each subsequent violation.
