UPDATE: Police release name of victim in Charleston shooting

Update 11:05 a.m. Aug. 7, 2020: The Charleston Police Department has released the name of the victim in a fatal shooting Thursday.

Police responded to a call at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, August 6 regarding a shooting in the 200 block of Elm Street. 

Officers say when they arrived at the scene, they found the victim, identified as Sergio Southall, 34, of Charleston with multiple gunshot wounds. 

The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

During an investigation, officers learned the victim was in an argument with two unknown black men on the sidewalk in front of the victim’s home.

One of the suspects pulled a gun and fired multiple rounds at the victim.  The suspects then fled the area on foot. 


KANAWHA COUNTY, WV (WOWK) – Police are investigating a homicide in Charleston.

Law enforcement at the scene say a man was shot and killed on a sidewalk on the 200 block of Elm Street after arguing with two black males.

The two men took off on foot.

The victim has not been identified but is in his thirties.

The shooting was reported around 6:45 p.m. on the 300 block of Park Avenue in Charleston.

There is no word on a suspect or the extent of injuries to the victim.

Charleston Police, Charleston Fire, and Charleston EMS are responding to the scene.
