CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) – People were not being admitted into to the West Virginia State Capitol between 1 PM and 3 PM because the size and density of the crowd prompted a capacity concern.

According to the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety, the concerns come from Capitol Police and the West Virginia State Fire Marshal.

WVDMAPS says that Capitol Police is working with organizers to ensure manageable conditions this afternoon.

As of Noon, Capitol Police had helped 5,000 through the East and West Wing public access entrances. The decision was made to close the access points at 1 PM.

In coordination with the West Virginia State Fire Marshal, Capitol Police reopened the East and West Wing Directed Public Access Points at 3 PM after re-assessing the crowds inside the Capitol.
