PORTSMOUTH, OH (WOWK)- The city of Portsmouth has appointed a new city manager.

The appointment of an interim City Manager came after the council decided in a meeting this past Monday to terminate Derek Allen.

According to documents, Allen is facing allegations that range from physically striking an employee on two different occasions, to giving raises without council approval and creating new positions.

Director of Public Utilities, Sam Sutherland, was chosen to take the place of Allen, effective immediately.

A second meeting is scheduled for Dec 28. at 6 p.m. to be held at  Portsmouth High School’s old gymnasium on Waller Street.

We will update with the latest information as it becomes available.
