DETROIT, MI (WOWK) – Aretha Franklin has passed away at age 76 in her home of Detroit, MI on Thursday said her representative, Gwendolyn Quinn.
According to Roger Friedman, who first broke the story of Aretha Franklin’s “gravely ill” condition, the family was asking for prayers and privacy.
She was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, Aretha then turned 76 in March, bravely battled back. She last performed on November 2, 2017, for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York. The final public performance was at Philadelphia’s Mann Center in August 2017. At that time, she was fighting exhaustion and dehydration.
Aretha was surrounded by family and people close to her.
Rolling Stone called her the number 1 singer of all time.
