19-year-old Jared Kessler has been arrested and charged for murdering his mother, 50-year-old Carol Ann Kessler.

Yesterday the Parkersburg Police Department responded to a call near the 1100th block of Stadium Drive after a female was reported deceased by an acquaintance, according to a Parkersburg Police Department Facebook post. Her son Jared had been living at her residence prior.

Uniformed officers located Jared Kessler and the victim’s vehicle at the Latrobe Street Mission shortly after the initial call was placed. Police found Jared covered in blood and was then taken in for questioning.

Kessler provided a statement to investigators explaining that he and his mother got in to a fight that turned violent, admitting that he stabbed his mother several times in the chest and abdomen, then proceeded to cut the victim’s neck and face multiple times.

The victim’s body was taken away for autopsy at the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Jared Kessler will have an appearance in Wood County Magistrate Court and a formal arraignment in Wood County Circuit Court.

He currently is held at the North Central Regional Jail. Investigation is still underway and if anyone has information, they are to contact Detective K. Barnette at (304) 424-8444 or visit the tip line at parkersburgpolice.com.
