Supreme Court Candidates Focus on Restoring Faith in the High Court

The WV Bar Association held a Supreme Court Candidate Forum on Monday, giving the 10 candidates running for the Division One seat a chance to speak.

Candidates for the seat include: Tim Armstead, Kanawha County, Harry C. “Bo” Bruner, Jr., Kanawha County, Robert H. Carlton, Mingo County, Ronald H. Hatfield, Jr., Cabell County, Mark Hunt, Kanawha County, Hiram “Buck” Lewis, IV, Clay County, Joanna I. Tabit, Kanawha County, Chris Wilkes, Berkeley County, Jeff C. Woods, Kanawha County, and D.C. Offutt, Jr., Cabell County.

With the Supreme Court Scandal, there is more pressure than ever to regain faith in the Supreme Court and that was on the mind of most candidates at the forum.

“I have a great deal of confidence in the people of our state and they want that court restored and they deserve to have a court that they can trust,” said Former House Speaker Armstead.

A second forum will be held on Thursday at the WV Culture Center for the Division Two seat.
