JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Rhode Island woman is facing several charges including first-degree child abuse after her 3-year-old son ingested cocaine, police said.

Tina Marie Tucker, 36, is also charged with cruelty to or neglect of a child, as well as two counts of procurement of sexual conduct for a fee.

Police said they were called to Hasbro Children’s Hospital December 6 after doctors said Tucker’s son had ingested cocaine within the past 24 to 48 hours.

According to a court affidavit, a DCYF caseworker brought the child to the hospital after “observing deplorable living conditions” and noticing the boy appeared ill.

According to the affidavit, DCYF has had a case open on the boy since he was born because Tucker took drugs while she was pregnant with him.

The doctor, according to the affidavit, said Tucker neglected to continue recommended care for her son and said “his environment is unsafe and places him at significant risk of harm.”

Tucker was arraigned Tuesday morning and ordered held on bail.
