United Way of the River Cities is hosting free tax preparation sites with Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.
According to a news release from the United Way of the River Cities, Rachel Houston, director of United Way’s Financial Stability Partnership, said VITA volunteers will take over 10 sites to help community members with an appointment file their state and federal taxes.
Two sites new this year are the WK Elliot Apartment’s Community Building in Guyandotte and the Hamlin Community Center in Hamlin.
“Many people don’t realize they can file their taxes for free and with help,” Houston said.
Houston said that, in addition to the in-person tax preparation sites, individuals who made less than $66,000 last year can use My Free Taxes, a service powered by H&R Block.
