UPDATE: Burglary Suspect Arrested, Charged with Attempted Murder

Police have arrested a suspect for breaking into a woman’s home and assaulting her with a crowbar.

According to Charleston police, Russell Slater was arrested Monday evening.

He is facing charges of burglary, 1st degree robbery and attempted murder.

According to CPD the victim is a woman in her sixties and suffered multiple broken bones in her face and a broken arm. The attack happened soon after the woman’s husband left for church.

The suspect forcefully entered the home and attacked the woman with a crowbar, before stealing a loaded gun and running. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.


CPD has confirmed they are actively investigating a burglary to a home in the 700 block of Park Ave where the homeowner was assaulted. The suspect is a white male, thin to medium build, wearing a gray or black hooded sweatshirt and is believed to be traveling on foot.

The victim is receiving medical treatment but is in stable condition. Police are still looking for the suspect and are asking anyone with information to call 304-348-8111. We will have more on this story as information becomes available.
