Crews fight house fire in Huntington

West Virginia

Huntington Fire crews battled a house fire Thursday night that eventually spread to a second home before it was brought under control.

Flames could be seen shooting through the roof of a home on 8th Ave. when they were called to the scene around 8:30 p.m.  The fire spread to a second home before firefighters could get it out.  That home was abandonded.

One person was inside the first home when the fire started. Huntington Fire Chief Jan Rader tells us the home didn’t have smoke detectors and that person didn’t realize there was a fire until somebody came to the front door to warn them.

Crews blocked off 8th Ave. between 12th and 14th St. while they worked to clear the scene.

We’re told one firefighter was injured during the fight, they rolled their ankle and were taken to the hospital.
