MERCER COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — Two people are facing charges in connection to the death of a toddler, according to deputies.

Mercer County Deputies arrested Christy and Corey Moore on Thursday, November 8, 2018. Both are charged with child neglect resulting in death.

Deputies said Christy and Corey were parents of the victim who was 21-months-old.

Court documents state Christy took the child to the emergency room on Thursday. Doctors told officers when Christy arrived, the child was malnourished, weighing only 14 pounds, pale and unresponsive. Doctors tried air lifting the child to another hospital, but he passed away before they could do so.

The parents told investigators the child became sick around the beginning of the month and had lost between 14 to 18 pounds. When detectives asked the parents why they did not take the toddler to the doctor, they said it was a “mistake.”
