Federal fugitive taken into custody by officers with Milton Police Department

A federal fugitive who sparked a manhunt earlier this week along Howell’s Mill Road has been arrested by officers with the Milton Police Department.

According to a Facebook post by the department, Pltm. T. Withers and Chief J. Parsons encountered Cruz Tovar, 29, of Ona on March 21, 2019 while responding to a call regarding a domestic dispute at Hickory Way Apartments.

Officers said a struggle ensued, but they were able to subdue Tovar. 

A number of other officers, including deputies with the Cabell County Sheriff’s Department and troopers with the West Virginia State Police responded to the scene.

Officers said they found a .40 caliber weapon under Tovar’s seat in his apartment.

Tovar was charged with assault on a police officer, obstruction and prohibited person with a firearm.

In addition, he had outstanding warrants in Putnam County for possession of meth with intent to deliver and prohibited person with a firearm.

Tovar is being held at Western Regional Jail and on a $150,000, cash only bond.
