Gov. Justice Appoint Hardesty to fill Ojeda’s WV Senate Seat

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WOWK/AP) – West Virginia Governor Jim Justice has appointed Paul Hardesty to the 7th District West Virginia Senate seat.

Governor Justice made the announcement on Twitter at around 5 PM, on Thursday, January 17th, 2019.

Nine Democrats applied to fill a vacant seat in the West Virginia Senate.

The state Democratic Party released the list of names Wednesday in the 7th District. Sen. Richard Ojeda resigned last week to run for U.S. president.

The district’s Democratic Executive Committee met Thursday in Chapmanville to vote on three names to submit to Gov. Jim Justice.

The applicants all included Susan Perry, Sheila Riddle, Ralph Rodighiero, Joe White, Harry Freeman and Art Kirkendoll; Harry Keith White of Mingo County; and Josh Watson of Lincoln County.
